The Alexa Experience team is seeking a seasoned, visionary in Voice User Interface (VUI) Design to play a key leadership role in the future of Alexa at Amazon. In this role, you will define and drive Alexa’s end-to-end experience across a portfolio of products and features including Alexa’s core foundational aspects for users at scale. You will work closely with leaders in science, engineering and product management in an Agile environment to successfully drive design from early concepts to launch. You will collaborate with numerous product, design, user research, development, voice technology experts, and executives in our unique voice assistance space. You will identify, define, and implement solutions to raise the bar for the Alexa customer experience, as measured by an outsized impact on customers’ interest in, and engagement with Alexa.

Success requires understanding and navigating a rapidly evolving product, technology, and feature set and synthesizing complex technical capabilities into a cohesive and visionary product narrative. In this role, you will be on point to both define the North Star for Alexa’s customer experience and then translate that narrative into actionable and discrete road-map items. Your work will include building an inspired culture of exceptional customer obsession, by creating mechanisms that highlight opportunities to improve launched or proposed customer experience. You will also lead the education of teams and individuals throughout the Alexa organization, from individual contributors to executive leadership.

Responsibilities:
· Work confidently and collaboratively as equal owners with product management and engineering to create amazing user experiences that delight customers.
· Advocate, advance, and influence VUI design for Alexa Experience and for several large cross-organization initiatives.
· Contribute to, and curate, the group’s best practices for VUI design.
· Build respect and credibility with stakeholders, direct reports, other management, and executives.
· Advocate for the voice design community inside and outside of Amazon.
· Use diverse inputs to identify and define exciting new concepts, opportunities, and customer problems.
· Drive design from initial concept through final implementation.
· Develop best-in-class Alexa experiences (user interface designs, interaction models, prototypes, patterns etc.) in a fast-paced environment and seeing them through to launch; then using data to iterate and improve.
· Clearly and persuasively communicate, specify, and describe design concepts, solutions, and needs to senior executives.
· Excel in all aspects of design including voice user interaction design, multi-modal and visual design, concept development, user research, and prototyping.
· Understand how to advocate for customers and integrate user research into the product development process.
· Illustrate design direction through excellent communication and storytelling.
· Use humor, creativity, and positive energy to maintain personal and team momentum.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· 15+ years of experience in product, voice or interaction design.
· Subject matter expertise in voice or conversational design.
· A portfolio of work demonstrating experience creating human-centered design solutions and showing your ability to turn ideas into a strong and unique creative vision.
· A track record of ground-breaking work.
· Experience creatively solving hard problems across complex products with aggressive deadlines.
· Strong command of interaction design, information architecture, patterns and common controls.
· Strong written and verbal communications.
· Proven ability to develop and evangelize product vision.
· Experience creatively solving hard problems across complex projects with aggressive deadlines.
· Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; proven ability to communicate complex concepts and design solutions clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization across large organizations and disciplines.
· Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques.
· BA in linguistics, voice or interaction design, HCI, or related field.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· MS in linguistics, voice or interaction design, HCI, or related field.
· Strong command of interaction design, information architecture, patterns and common controls.
· Strong written and verbal communications. Proven ability to develop and evangelize product vision.

· Experience designing for a variety of form factors including: iOS, Android, Tablet and desktop.
· Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques.
· BA or MS in visual or graphic design, HCI, interaction design, or related field.
